Service Through Education

Education is important to Bee Line members, whether educating our youth, educating ourselves or learning about community needs.

We support educating our youth by aiding our schools and teachers in our community through various projects such as book and materials donations, teacher grants and project support.

We strive to ensure that each chapter meeting includes an educational program on subjects such as history or conservation or even heritage crafts.  One such program commemorated World War II but from a woman’s perspective.  The program highlighted a variety of issues women faced during the war.  The program also highlighted family members who were “Rosies”, including our own Bee Line member, Dorothy Davenport.  Dorothy graduated from high school in 1942, just in time to begin supporting the war effort as a Red Cross volunteer in her hometown of Princeton, Illinois.  Even before the United States entered the war, Dorothy was rolling bandages for Allied troops.  That program won Bee Line the 2020 National First Place for Commemorative Events about World War II.

We educate ourselves about organizations and individuals in our community who may have a need.  Some of our efforts include  supporting families at Christmas, filling and distributing backpacks to children entering safe haven programs sponsored by child advocacy centers across the Eastern Panhandle, and creating “hurricane” buckets filled with cleaning supplies.  We also support our local food banks and our community center.
